Greater expansion in Cumbernauld, Scotland by UK freight forwarder Davies Turner

Cumbernauld, Scotland

Greater expansion of UK freight forwarder and logistics company Davies Turner is underway in Cumbernauld, Scotland.
Doubling its Cumbernauld capacity, Scottish shippers now have even more freedom to choose a service that delivers.
The implementation of an additional 20,000 sq ft of warehousing, with a height of 10m, has doubled the capacity of the existing warehouse: the amount of racking has also been increased and five powered dock-levellers and another two floor-loading doors have been added.
Now 3,500 pallet spaces and increased floor space for cargo handling and sortation has been placed at the Davies Turner’s hub in Cumbernauld and a secure 1.5 acre service yard – including a clear span canopy of 4,500 sq ft – has been built in to protect the loading area from the elements.
A gated yard with palisade fencing, security alarms and CCTV protection has been mobilised, protecting over 43,000 sq ft of office space.
The facility is accredited to BRC Storage and Distribution Standards for handling/distributing foodstuffs and was given the highest AA rating in a recently held audit. With the continual growth in Scottish food sector exports, it could be considered a favourable position to adopt.
Cumbernauld is one of Davies Turner’s strategically placed RDCs covering the UK and Ireland. The other hubs are at Birmingham, Bristol, Dartford, Dublin, London Heathrow and Manchester – linked by overnight feeder services and with a further 14 satellite branches supporting the network.
Philip Stephenson, chairman of Davies Turner said: “Ten years ago, we reinforced our commitment to the Scottish market when we moved to larger premises at Cumbernauld, which is well situated in the Central Belt between Glasgow and Edinburgh and benefits from some of the best road connections in the UK.
“Soon afterwards we invested in narrow aisle racking in the building which quickly filled with new and existing business.
“We were then able to offer storage and distribution services as well as space for rapid transit freight.  A decade on, we acquired the freehold in Cumbernauld plus some adjoining land and now own a much expanded facility operating under BRC, AEO and Type A customs bonded status.
Darren McLaughlan, regional manager for Davies Turner added: “The development has created additional jobs and offers the Scottish manufacturing and trading sectors the ability to store and redistribute products via our multimodal and international network of services.”
