The Northern Powerhouse: One Agenda

northern powerhouse

Chancellor George Osborne has promised plenty of money for the Northern Powerhouse Project since he first proposed it in 2014. But is the effort really enough to turn the concept into reality?
And how well prepared is the North itself? A KPMG report released recently said that the biggest issue facing the Northern Powerhouse is how to attract and retain people in their twenties and thirties – the ‘millenial’ generation. To meet this challenge, the North has to become a magnet to rival London and similar mega-cities across the world. It already has a 15 million urban population. Now it needs not only a vastly enhanced transport network but the technological, business and cultural pull to turn the millenial tide.
The purpose of this conference will be to look at the Northern Powerhouse and focus particularly on what the North is doing and should be doing to justify this investment.
The agenda will cover:
The Government’s viewpoint
What are we doing to get the North ready?
Turning northern cities into ‘positive magnets’
Business dynamism in the North
Investing in the North – An outsider’s perspective
Exploring innovative ways to finance growth
Creating the transport infrastructure
Who should attend:
Attendance at this event will benefit all stakeholders directly impacted by the development, including northern businesses, northern policy makers, rail industry and supply chain, financial institutions, construction industry, other transport professionals and consultants.
